With the ever popular and much debated movie release of 50 Shades of Grey topping headlines for a while now, I thought it only fitting I do my own Siberian version. No, you don't have to be 18+ to view this post ;)
Those of you who have followed my blog from the beginning may remember a post I did quite some time ago, where I talked about different colors a husky can be. I am bringing that topic up again, as far too many people see one image when they think of a husky.
When you think Siberian husky - what do you picture in your head?
Most likely, your thinking somewhere along the lines of the image shown above.
That is my girl Mika. Definitely the typical Siberian Husky look.
But did you know that Siberian's can come in many different colors? And sometimes, even sizes.
A male Siberian's typical size is 53 - 60 cm tall, weighing 45 - 60lbs
A female Siberian's typical size is 51 - 56 cm tall, weighing 35 - 50lbs
And the list goes on! Those are just a few!
Obviously you guys know I am literally "Husky Crazed."
This breed fascinates me to no end. The info I have learned both from experience and research, baffles me to the full extent.
There is nothing I love more than sharing knowledge about this breed, so I do hope you all enjoy learning about them.
That's it for today, you may not have got "50 shades" of fur colors, but hey, you get the point!

I think all huskies are beautiful..whatever their color! All of the huskies that I have known have been about the same size though...I wasn't aware that they came in a variety of sizes!
ReplyDeleteI agree. They are generally the same size, but there are some who do just go a little over, or a little under, and while they may not ever be able to be a show husky, they are still a husky, and beautiful in every way.
DeleteThat;s new to us too re the sizing. Have a super Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly.
I have edited my post so that it was more clear what I was trying to say. They are generally the same size, but there isn't just one size, it is a range of what they can be. But as with any breed, there are some who break the mold :)
DeleteGosh you got me curious so I went and looked at the AKC Standard. I like that it allows all colors. They listed a bunch and I think have a couple more than you listed! What a variety. Size is limited though with a DQ for over size. Is the CKC standard similar to the AKC standard?
ReplyDeleteSize is somewhat limited, your right. And as I mentioned above, I did edit my post so that it a bit more clear for people. There is a range of sizes a husky can be, but sibe's going over or under a certain range would not be accepted in a dog show or things like that. And yes, there are SO many colors a husky can be!!
DeleteGoodness - how about "50 Shades of Husky" ?!! They're all beautiful..........every single one.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sammy
haha!!! Yes exactly!
DeleteThey are all pretty. Our friend in Germany always has a light tan and white husky...real elegant looking.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous aren't they?
DeleteLove it! So many different colors and sizes! Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteYes there really are!
DeleteEveryone single one is beautiful and truly had no idea there could be so much variation. Some varieties look quite wolf like! I guess kinda resemble the Black and White variety! Very informative! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for coming by!
DeleteHuskies are really beautiful dogs!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely!
DeleteHaha. Huskies are such lovely colours.
ReplyDeleteWoofs from Earl, Ethel and I at Earl's World!
They certainly are :)
DeleteThey are all so beautiful! I think the "grey" is the color I used to think most huskies were. Do you have a favorite? I think one thing that surprised me about your dogs is how small Lexus is. I always thought huskies were quite large, even larger than what you listed. I suppose their fur makes them look bigger than they are weight-wise though.
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
Yep, grey and black and white are the typical colors people think when they think husky.
DeleteNo, huskies are not even classed as a large breed dog, they are a medium size. Lexus is a little on the small side compared to my other two, but she is still in the ranged weight that a husky is "suppose" to be. She is right around 35 to 40lbs. My favorite I think would have to be the Agouti.
this was super clever and I LOVED it! xoxo
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Caren! xo
DeleteI think all the different colors are so neat! :D
ReplyDeleteThey are, and I love to help people understand that a husky isn't the typical image they may think that they are. There are sooooo many others!
DeleteThe Huskies are such beautiful dogs :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Laika :)
DeleteWow, we didn't know huskies could be so many different colors.
ReplyDeleteYep! They come in so many different colors, I couldn't even post them all in one!
DeleteThere are so many choices of beautiful Huskies! Bassets come in a few colors but not that many!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! Bassets are adorable pups too!
DeleteI am always amazed at how many different colours huskies can be. It really is neat!
ReplyDeleteIt is so cool isn't it?
DeleteHuskies are beautiful! I had a red Husky when I was in college and he was awesome! I still miss him :(
ReplyDeleteRed huskies are gorgeous!
DeleteI'm amazed at how many colors Huskies can be, I hadn't heard of the "piebald" before. My Husky is a dark reddish brown & white, which we call a "Red" Siberian Husky. She looks like the one you have that is "Copper". My friend Jodi got a black Sibe w/ just a little white bit of white marking, which is the first black Husky I have known. Very interesting!
ReplyDeletePie Bald are one of my favorites!
DeleteI'm glad you posted the size range. So many people think that Sibes are "big" dogs.
ReplyDeleteI know, meanwhile they are classed as a medium breed! haha! Not sure why everyone thinks they are so large, but it may be because Malamutes look very much like huskies, but they are much larger than a husky, so maybe people see those and get confused lol!
DeleteGreat Post! There is so much to teach people about Huskies and I love that about the breed.
ReplyDeleteMe too!!! There is nothing I love more than educating people about this magnificent breed!
