Hi everyone, welcome to Siberian Saturday!
We can't deny the fact that huskies bare a striking resemblance to Wolves, but is there a relation?
The truth is, no.
A Siberian Husky, Malamute, or any other Northern breed which resembles a wolf stays at just that - a resemblance. These SnowDogs are no closer in relation to wolves than any other dog out there. They were once thought to be, but lets get with the times here. Research has changed. ;)
Nope, i'm a husky! And I know it! |
There are many differences between a Siberian Husky and a Wolf, although some things can be considered very similar as well.
While the husky does tend to have a high prey drive, strong levels of independence, and a pack mentality similar to a wolf, they are people dogs. They love their humans, love working/playing beside their humans, thrive in households as indoor dogs and are most definitely not a wolf dressed in dog clothes!
A dog is a dog is a dog! And we love them that way!
Thanks so much for coming by and hope to see you back here on Monday!

DeleteHi Y'all
ReplyDeleteHuskies certainly are beautiful.
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Aw thanks Hawk!
DeleteWe love the blue and brown eye thing. Reminds mom of her husky as a kid. Alfred was no wolf either ;)
ReplyDeleteThe bi eyes are definitely unique looking!!! Love it!
DeleteI can imagine how often you get that question! Your babies are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Far too often! haha!
DeleteThanks!
They do have a resemblance to wovles and I can understand why some people may think this.
ReplyDeleteMe too, that's why it's good to clear the air and get the truth out there. Far too many people fear huskies because of their wolf like appearance.
DeleteI always wondered about that, so good job clearing up the mystery! I think huskies are one of the most beautiful dogs out there...like Emma, I love the two different eyes too, as well as just the beauty of the blue eyes.
ReplyDeleteLots of wags and woofs from the crew at Wag n Woof Pets
Huskies do have very striking eyes and aside from their wolf like appearance, I think the eyes are what draws people to them quickly.
DeleteI bet you get that question about as much as we get, "Is that a giant Pit Bull?" :-)
ReplyDeletehaha! Yes exactly!
DeleteWe're guessing you guys get asked that a LOT. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes bol! More than you would think!
DeleteHuskies do look a little like wolves...but better. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!
DeleteIt is neat what DNA can tell us.
ReplyDeleteYes, it sure is!
DeleteBOL - we can't tell you how many times Mom has been stopped while walking us and asked if we are wolves or part wolf? Silly peeps.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Silly peeps indeed! haha!
DeleteYep -
ReplyDeleteWe are wolves!
Follow me Little Red Riding Hood ;-)
Hugz&Khysses,
KhyraWolf
BOL! Crazy Khyra!
DeleteBeautiful photos. Thanks for sharing this information.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And your very welcome!
DeleteGreat info, I get called a wolf alot!
ReplyDeleteYep, I know our Malamute cousins get asked the very same thing!!
DeleteThanks for the birthday card for Rusty. We added it to our post.
ReplyDeleteYour very welcome!!!
DeleteMy brother Anderson looks like a lynx and Rushton certainly has the lion thing goin' but they're all cat just like you beautiful huskies are all dog.
ReplyDeletePurrs,
Nissy
Very true Niss, very true!
DeleteGood point of clarification. People have asked us if our Husky is a wolf. They do look so similar, and of course they both howl! I believe scientists still think dogs, regardless of current breeds, originated with the gray wolf thousands of years ago. There may be some who dispute that. Anyway, I luv that my Husky looks like a wolf!
ReplyDeleteI love that too! In fact I am a huge wolf lover which is one of the things that originally most attracted me to the breed!
DeleteI have always heard all dogs go back to wolves way way back. In fact there are some genetic mutations that cause diseases that they believe happened way back then.
ReplyDeleteyes, and over the thousands of years of cross breeding and everything else, there is just no wolf anywhere in our beloved dogs anymore
