Here we are once again.
The start of the week.
The end of the weekend.
The day everyone seems to dread.
However it is also the day where we like to bring you fantastic rescue related stories to help bring a smile to your Monday morning.
And today my kitty pals . . .
This one is for you!
Right about now you may be wondering what could vodka possibly have to
do with saving the life of a cat.
Allow me to explain.
Meet Missey the 4 month old kitten :
This is their story.
Missey came home one day completely covered in anti freeze.
Why?
Some cruel horrid people thought it would be funny maybe? But the truth is, they were most likely trying to kill her. SO....now your probably wondering how this could possibly bring a smile to your face. Let me finish, i'm getting there.
Missey turned extremely ill, extremely fast. She was rushed to the vet.
We all know how toxic anti freeze can be to animals, so it looked like the end of Missey.
This particular vet however decided in order to save this kitten, he would have to put her on a vodka drip, to the families utter shock, no doubt.
So why would the vet think of giving this kitten vodka after being covered in anti freeze?
In vodka, the ethanol was basically the only thing that could break down the poison in Missey's system. 2 days of treatment and 39% vodka later Missey was on her way to a wonderful full recovery. Although the drip made Missey slightly drunk, it saved her life.
Vodka anyone? |
Although this practice is very rare, it can work providing the animal is immediately brought in.
I would like to give a huge shout out to the vet who saved this kitten. He put every effort into saving her life, and for that WE thank you.
I do love a happy ending,xx Rachel
